Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

One of my Fav spots in Des Moines - It is still new and is way hip! A great place for Happy Hour or a romantic date place and yes, a cool bar and relaxed location to meet up with friends. The staff is friendly and caring and the food is AMAZING! Notes: They have booth and outdoor seating. I came here for dessert one night and came back for Pizzas. I love it so much now and often send people to check out and only hear great feedback and photos of yummy looking food! Wait update...#3 time for Food- The Gnocci Pasta was amazing!

This is an upscale casual restaurant that knows its business. Service is always friendly and timely, great ambience, and creative food choices. The exotic pizzas are a highlight and are half-price during happy hour. There's also nice patio. Just wish they were open for lunch.
(5)Katie H.
Love the place, love the food (I've only had the pizza, but it was great both times). Service is generally good, but I have to agree with Masha, the patio leaves tons of room for improvement. I think the restaurant host staff is lazy because they won't take names for patio seating and manage that, instead of letting customers cruise the area and hover impatiently for others to leave. WHAT A MESS! Dear Eatery A, please make a quick change and handle it!
(3)Patrick T.
I know why Eatery /A has an A in the name! It does not stand for Awesome though the patio is! It does not stand for Amazing though the service was! It does not even stand for Always which is when I want to come back! I think it just stands for the letter grade I would give the over all experience! A! Hell A+ This place rules! The building is beautiful, it's fancy but not stuffy, the patio is one of the best in the city, the service is great, and the food really nocks it out of the park! They made sure to customized our order to make sure everything was vegan! The tahini they put on the Brussel sprouts was amazing, but beware some of the tahini they have is yogurt based! But our waiter made sure that we got it without! Now I have had Pizza from here before but never ordered my own, they made me a fantastic vegan pizza that was just beautiful and perfectly cooked. I love a crispy crust with a little darkness too it and it was done immaculately. I look forward to going back and maybe sitting inside this fall or winter but the patio is out of this world so when it's nice out you got to sit out there! It's first come first serve so you may have to wait for a table but the experence is worth it!

The only thing that keeps me coming back is the pizza and happy hour. Tried to order off the menu again and was just disappointed so I've sworn off trying again. The happy hour is a ridiculous bargain as you get half off a pizza and draft beer, and for happy hour after work, we take advantage, but come on guys, learn how to use that oven! Stop making everything in bulk far ahead, get some local produce, and use that oven for more than just pizza!

Great place to eat! Great atmosphere and great patio to sit out if it's a nice day. The pizzas look weird at first, but they are delicious, as are the appetizers I've tried. You definitely need to check out their happy hour from 4-6. Great deals- 1/2 price pizzas and drinks.
(5)Chris B.
Quickly becoming a favorite of mine. From 3-6, their wood oven pizzas are half off (same for drinks, minus the wood oven-ness). It's a great deal that means a couple of people can eat good food very cheaply. The decor is nice, their patio is a great option when the weather is nice, and I have yet to be disappointed by any of their food. Pizzas, pastas, and weekend brunch options have all been fantastic. I wish that their hours were a little longer during the week and a better parking lot would be nice but that is just being picky and they are doing the best that they can with their location.
(5)Ed S.
The pizza is really good. The appetizers are original and interesting and also really good. I personally like the brussels. I eat here a couple times a month and have generally had amazing service. Good beer selection too.

I want to like this place, but after one visit, I wasn't disappointed, but nothing impressed me that much either. A few of my friends and I went for pizza and drinks on a Tuesday. It was gorgeous outside so the patio was packed, but they found us a table right by the window so we could at least bask in some sunshine. They have a pretty awesome wine list and some pretty decent looking cocktails. I had settled on the scallop entree on the menu, only to be told they were sold out of it. I got the gyro pizza instead. They have a great pizza oven and a pretty extensive pizza menu. With everything in their corner, I expected the pizza to be phenomenal. When it came out, I almost thought they had forgotten to put any lamb on it. The flavors, which could have been incredible, were simply basic. The crust had a great crunch and chew. I feel like a pizza that costs so much needs to be perfect. I do want to go back and try some other things on the menu, and some of the other pizzas. I maybe just chose the wrong thing.

Sunday night, the sun sitting low on the horizon and temperatures making outdoor dining possible, we find a table on the front deck of Eatery for our first visit. After a mix up on who was going to be our server, we soon found ourselves sipping yummy cocktails. Our favorite was the Scofflaw. Hungry, but not starving, we decide to share several plates. We started with a trio of meat and cheese and found the homemade lavash crackers and the homemade ricotta to be particularly delicious. We also enjoyed the generous portion of triangles of manchego cheese and the dried salami. Well done and thoughtful presentation of each component along with fresh tastes and interesting textures made this charcuterie plate a success. Next we dug into a small shallow bowl of roasted Brussel sprouts. While yummy, they were several burnt sides. For our entrees, we ordered two half portions of two homemade pasta dishes. We loved the spicy Ricotta Cavatelli with its intense flavors, fennel sausage, and salty pesto. It coupled nicely with the milder, but still richly flavored pappardelle dish. Composed of eggplant pieces, cherry tomatoes and fresh spinach, we talked ourselves into thinking it was healthy despite the lovely melted butter that pooled underneath the perfectly cooked al dente noodles. The food hit several bliss points and we were very impressed. I am holding back a star only because at the beginning of our meal, we had a bit of a bump getting a table and then a bit of a wait to finally get a server. We hope to return soon.

Beautiful restaurant inside and out. Service was on point the night we went. Orders the fried gnocchi as an appetizer. Very good. Gyro pizza - very good and thin crispy crust. Scallops - cooked very well with some yummy sauce. Very small portion was roughly 4 pieces of scallops. Ordered creme brulee and it was decent :) Things to keep in mind - entree portions are on the smaller side. So you might want to order additional entrées or appetizers to get a full meal.

I was super excited to try this place - my parents had gone a few weeks before for my dad's birthday, and had rave reviews. We went back tonight for my mom's birthday, four adults, and we had my two year old son with us. I was already a little leery about bringing our kiddo, but there were other young kids in the restaurant, it was a Wednesday night, and our kid is generally pretty chill. Plus it was my dear mother's birthday, and she wanted to eat here! We made reservations, and mentioned the young child, but still were seated on the "bar" side of the restaurant. And directly under a speaker. It was so loud, we couldn't hear ourselves speak. My ears actually hurt. The server came to take our drink orders, and she couldn't even hear us. We asked the server if there was any way to turn the music down, or if there were maybe other tables. She acted like we asked her for the moon on a plate - maybe she was busy, maybe having a bad night, but she seemed PUT OUT. "If we turn down the music here, it's going to turn it down for everyone else!" Well, I don't know that this would've been so terrible...it's not like I saw everyone jamming out to their favorite tune - it was some kind of angsty hipster rock. According to her, the manager was too busy to deal with it, and every other table would be just as loud. "It's just a loud restaurant" was her response. It's not that the people were loud. The lousy music was loud. I'd expect this from a bar later at night, but not at a restaurant at 6:45pm on a Wednesday. Anyway, when it was clear that she wasn't happy to have us in her section, and we weren't happy to sit someplace where we couldn't hear ourselves think, let alone speak, we left. It just felt very much like she looked at my older parents and my toddler and said, welp, too bad. We're not here to serve you. As we walked out, it was SO MUCH QUIETER on the dining side. If they had just reserved our table in that section, we probably could have had an enjoyable evening there. Instead, we ended up leaving, and will likely not try again.

HAPPY HOUR!!! Yep, get there early, grab a table on the patio. Half price bottle of wine and $5 pizza's. Yep, that's my kind of early bird special. And the staff is still nice to you tooo.
(5)Keith H.
This place was pretty good and it's relatively inexpensive for what you are getting. The beer list is solid, 5 taps isn't a ton but they have a decent bit of variation (as well as some Bud Light for the person in your group who loves to hate beer) I'd prefer they had a stout or a porter during the winter months but I am likely not their target consumer. We had JUST missed the happy hour when we visited but it looks like a really good deal and I'll have to try that out some time. (Though the pizza is a bit too confident for it's own good. I get you want to appear mildly upscale but the effort to show off the fanciness of their pants was a bit much.) The service was excellent, the waiter came by enough we were cared for but not so often that I felt I had to share my opinion about each morsel of food I ate. The food was very good though perhaps a bit too much emphasis on being fashionable. They had an artisan Catalonian goat's milk cheese variety on the menu that I remembered trying when I was in Barcelona but I was happy to try it again these few years later (and it mostly stood up to the memory). The menu has a lot of these sorts of specialty items which are esoteric and divergent from any central theme. It appears that their menu gets played with a decent amount which is good to keep the chef engaged and create new experiences for diners.

Sometimes I have issues going out of my comfort zone. It's not that I don't like trying new things it's just that I prefer the comfortably of familiarization. My wife told me she was sick and tired of the same old hang outs so she got to pick. And since we were already near downtown she decided to try Eatery A, which I had actually heard good things about. Very trendy looking building from both the outside and inside. It happened to be raining this particular evening we visited so the patio was not in use although it looked nice. Inside is very modern and trendy and behind the bar you will notice the centerpiece of the restaurant, their brick oven. We bellied up to the bar because there was about a 30 minute wait for a table and I rather sit at the rail anyway. There is one smaller TV in the bar area so this place is definitely more centered on socialization with your dinner guests. They had a small, but decent selection of craft beers on tap. I love seeing more and more places that kick the macro beers out and replace them with local and regional craft beers. They also have a fairly extensive wine selection. I ordered a beer and wine for my wife then dove into the menu. The menu has an extensive selection of brick oven pizzas with eclectic toppings. I opted for a pizza with white sauce topped with Gorgonzola cheese, dates, and a sherry reduction. Honestly, it was extremely good, even for more of a carnivore like myself. I ordered the side of brussle sprouts because it's something I really don't eat much at home but I grew up on them. They were pan fried and had bread crumbs on them. Also very tasty. Pastas are also another category that Eatery A focuses on. My wife ordered the lasagna. She enjoyed it and said it was easy to taste the difference between this and chain restaurant lasagnas. Price was right around par for this type of establishment. A pizza, lasagna, the side of sprouts, two beers and a glass of wine came in around $54. Only other observation I had is that this place is more north of just casual. I was still wearing my business casual clothes from work but I could see where walking in here with jeans and a t-shirt would make you stick out. Not high end formal by any means but if you decide to come here you might want to at least grab a nice shirt.

Very cool place. And i mean that literally as well as figuratively. It was freezing in the place. We thought it was us, but 2 other dinner parties laughed with us at the arctic breeze from the vents. We started with a gin and Bombay and red wine. Both good, but 8/9 bucks respectively. I had the octopus dish, which was tiny (alas, reflected in the nominal price) and it had a baked (?) cheese piece, which was overall, quite delicious. The octopus was very hearty without being chewy. Also opted for the brussel sprouts app and the hummus app. Both, very tasty. The sprouts were grilled to perfection and if it were a whole plate, why, I wouldn't complain. The place is very trendy, cozy, modern all wrapped up in one. Service was mediocre, like she couldn't wait to get off her shift. But overall, I thought this restaurant was super tasty.

Thanks to Anne at the bar who treated us like kings after a long bike ride! She made us feel totally welcomed, recommended some great menu items, and overall made our visit fantastic! Food/drink was excellent! Thank you Anne! Carlos y Phillip

We had lunch at Eatery A on a Saturday after browsing through the farmers market downtown. We hardly drove down Ingersoll Ave and was surprised to see a several new restaurants. It was a beautiful day and we were seated immediately on the patio. There was only one server, who were tending several tables, so we had to wait for a little while to order drinks. We ordered #1 pizza, Brussels sprouts salad, and a fruit cup side. The pizza looked great; however, when I bit into the anchovies it was very fishy. I liked the pizza dough but it could have been a little thinner for my liking and a little more toppings would make a much better pizza. I probably would not order #1 pizza again unless they have better quality anchovies. The Brussels sprout salad was very tasty and the fruit cup had a nice assortment of fresh berries, kiwi, and melons. Service was slow but good. We will be back to try dinner menu.

A newcomer to the Ingersoll scene but they came in with a bang. A very encouraging happy hour draws the most loyal of customers. Positively scrumptious wood fired pizza and the most artistically crafted Mediterranean menu I've happened across in years. Definitely a spot to visit in DSM!
(5)Judge D.
Excellent wood oven pizza! Get there during happy hour from 3-6. Pies are 1/2 price at that time. Excellent deal! Some very interesting pizza's to try. I have not had one I did not like yet! The house made Ricotta is very good. App's were a touch small portion wise. Tad high priced as well. But very good none the less. The entree's likewise are a touch small and higher priced. But again were very good. Presentation of the food was good. We have had good experiences with the staff as well. Nice Patio! It is a busy place so get there early. My only real issue was it was very loud in there with a full house. But that can happen JUDGEMENT: Judge Dredd approves and likes Eatery A but recommend hitting it during happy hour if you can. And sitting on the patio. Go to Eatery A and be the Judge yourself!
(4)Karin L.
Sunday mornings there is nothing I love more than to relax with a refreshing Mimosa and indulge in some brunch fare. Eatery A has a fantastic brunch with a fabulous drink menu and some intriguing food options too. The atmosphere is great - I just love the interior - and when the weather is nice the patio is amazing too. What a great addition this restaurant is to Ingersoll!
(4)Craig Z.
Had a great dinner here. Our waitress Dallas was highly attentive a very knowledgable about every single item on the menu. We had a couple appetizers and a few pizzas. Everything came out quick and hot. When we showed up every single table was in use and we were still seated quickly. I can't wait to come back.
(5)Shannon H.
This place is amazing. Everything I have tried is absolutely delicious. Service is very friendly and the decor is unique with up cycled lighting and reclaimed wood. The wine selection pairs well with the menu. I'll return next time I'm in Des Moines. Cheers!
(5)Caitlin J.
Tried for the first time last night, after getting many recommendations to try. The happy hour is GREAT! My sister and I got bottle of great wine, delicious wood fired pizza and fried gnocchi (dangerously good) for less than 30 dollars. The food was to die for. Will be back soon!
(5)Ali P.
We enjoyed an amazing brunch on the patio with 2 kids and a baby! It was the best brunch I have had in Des Moines by far! Plus, the friendliest making us feel like we belonged with young children! The wait staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and offered a different table so we were out of the direct sun! Now...the best part...the FOOD! Amazing! Moving here from Chicago where "brunching" was a real thing, we found our go to for every Saturday or Sunday Brunch!! Can't wait for my friends to come visit and show off this awesome place!! This is a Des Moines spot not to miss!!
(5)Darcy B.
Took a small group to dinner and it was a great evening. Everyone enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service at Eatery A. We ordered appetizers to share between five of us. All were good, but the fried gnocchi was the standout. Everyone liked their entrees, which included pizzas, sword fish, mushroom agnolotti, and lasagna. Entrees are smaller, but there are many great side dishes on the menu. Ended the night with dessert- beignets, the budino and a chocolate bar. All were as good as the description. We were also met with a great server throughout the night. He was attentive and fun to talk to as we asked questions and engaged him in some conversation. He knew the menu, shared a fun story the table enjoyed and overall added to the enjoyment of the evening. Great to see a server with a sense of humor, a knowledge of food, and a knack for waiting tables too.
(5)Tina T.
A gf who lived in DSM recommended this place. My bf had a business trip so I joined him for a few days. The food was excellent and the menu was surprisingly more interesting than what we typically found in IA. Def go if you're looking for something a little more adventurous!
(4)Curt B.
Trendy and tasty. We ate outside on a Saturday night and the weather was absolutely wonderful. The pizza here is fantastic. I had the #5 lamb gyro feta and loved it, my friend had the tomato basil and that was a WOW!! Service was attentive and fast. The appearance was clean and modern. While the weather was perfect, the seats outside were very stylish and very uncomfortable and occasionally a loud vehicle would drive by and interrupt the conversation. I would definitely eat here again, but will probably sit inside due to the chairs they have outside. I am wondering if the traffic is lighter on a weeknight.
(4)Ellis M.
Great!! Went for dinner. Fancy pizza and entrees that were delicious, special, and fun. We ordered three things (appetizer, pizza, pasta) and shared between the two of us. Very enjoyable and would stop again when in Des Moines. Happy Hour deals are good and even run on Sunday afternoons! Beautiful interior and attentive service.
(5)Jason S.
Went here for brunch. It was amazing! Reasonably affordable too. I've heard they have great pizza. Same owner as Alba but more casual. Happy hour each day from 3-6 PM is a great deal with half-off pizzas, wine, and beer! Pizza is fantastic from the wood-fire oven. Staff is professional and attentive and prompt. A great place for many occasions - a nice date, family, guests, etc.
(5)Steve B.
the best happy hour around. the pizza is great that's all i've tried.
(4)Gerald Z.
This place is pretty good it has similar flavor profiles as Proof but they have more inventive dishes. Here's the short review: if you're hungry order the pizza it's one of the best in town. Do not order the entrees and expect to be full. As you will see my pictures if I stared at my entree for too long it would have disappeared. Okay here's the long review: came here on a Friday night. The place was packed. They told us the wait was going to be an hour, we said it was fine. Here is what is weird, they don't give you a buzzer. They simply say they "find" you when they are ready to seat you. This is a horrible system as the hostess doesn't remember what you look like and they inevitably just walk around the restaurant saying "are you Mr. Z?". They need to change this. Anyway the wait was more like 20 min, we granted a drink from the bar while we waited (they make great old fashioneds) and hung out on they patio. When it was our turn to sit we ordered an order of chicken croquettes and a pizza with guanciale (pork cheek), egg, and potatoes. The pizza is phenomenal quite literally one of the best in town. The crust has a sourdough flavor and is bubbly and chewy. The croquettes were meh... Crispy but dry. Then we moved on to our entrees. I had the roasted lamb... Which would have evaporated under strong light. The lamb itself though was very good but the portion was smurf-like. My wife had the hanger steak which was more substantial and very good too. It was however heavily spiced almost to the point that you could not taste the steak. The potatoes that the steak came with were great crispy and spicy Then came dessert. We opted for three :). We had the budino, zepole and olive oil polenta came. The zepole were light and airy they came with a lemon custard for dipping. Hands down the best dessert. I wish they would serve it with warm chocolate but I digress. The Busoni (Italian custard) was very good but very one note. The olive oil polenta cake was like eating a cliff bar with gelato. We were not a fan. Overall a good meal but we will only be back for pizza.
(3)Heather J.
Every. Day. Happy. Hour. 3-6 PM. Most things here are made within their wood fired oven and the flavor this gives is delish. Some of my favorites are the brussels sprouts, fig & arugula pizza. I love to go during happy hour (which again is every day from 3-6 PM) and share the half priced bottles of wine with friends as well as some great food. Everything coming out of their kitchen smells and looks great. Even when the business is booming (happy hour) they are quite quick with both drink and food. Lovely addition to the area! Beware parking is premium and by that I mean scarce but hey this is Ingersoll!
(5)Cindy L.
Really great happy hour - daily from 3-6 pm half price beer, wine, and pizzas. Really inventive and unique combinations. My favorites are the lamb gyro, fig prosciutto, and the jalapeño pineapple one. There were a few pizzas I've had that were average, but not bad by any means. I really love the pizza crust cooked in their pizza oven... Has a great chew with a slightly charred crust
(4)Iris I.
Very yummy!! Moscow mule was great! Has the glazed carrots and fried gnocchi appetizer. Carrots were so good! We got pizzas and shared it all. They were great! The one with potato egg and arugula was great! Highly recommend this place!
(5)Melissa M.
Best pizza in Des Moines - by far! I"m a self-proclaimed pizza snob, so I had my doubts about even the greatest of reviews of Eatery A. Thankfully my humility has been recharged after a lovely Sunday afternoon sitting out on the glorious balcony, sipping on half-priced wine, and noshing on one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. I ordered the #6 with proscuitto only on half (not a meat eater myself, but the boy is), and... Crust: this is the pinnacle of good wood-fired pizza crust. They've got that airiness down pat, a perfect level of thickness, and of course, great flavor. Toppings: I have to say I was a little disappointed that by listing "fig" as a topping, they meant fig jam as basically the "sauce" of the pizza. I was hoping/expecting sliced figs as a topping, but it was still outstanding. The flavors, all together, on this pie complimented each other so perfectly, but some may think the fig is a bit too sweet. (I'm not one of those people, mind you.) Overall, a very, VERY well done pie. Wine: a solid list, and again, how can you beat the happy hour EVERY DAY? Service: a bit slow and not the friendliest, but nothing terrible. If only they were open on Mondays, I'd be back today.
(4)Mary B.
This is quickly becoming our favorite breakfast spot on the weekends. Great omelette, great English muffin with jam options, delicious flatbreads. Pretty good bloody Mary as well! Terrific service, keep it up!
(4)Crystal W.
The food is really good, but the service is weird. The gal that served us was a little awkward but that's nothing really. The weird part was today I called to inquire about the private party room to rent out for our rehearsal dinner. The "office manager" told me that there was a fee but it depends on how many people and "Like, what day of the week and stuff." I told him it was a Friday and for about 40 people. He stated, "It's like, $2000 or something like that. Like, if you have a bill for $2200 then you'll pay 200 over that..." Ok, but not for 40 people - that would be $55/person - LOL for a place like THIS. Anyway, the guy admitted eventually he wasn't really sure of the cost because "he was just the office manager" but asked if I wanted to have the managers call me...um...no thanks. I'm already turned away from the condescending nature of the sassy "office manager."
(3)Rachel S.
Half price pizza tasted amazing, a little too much crust but great toppings. Créme brulée.. not enough créme, like literally 3 millimeters thick, but perfect brulée and date compote. Was way overpriced at $7. Overall, I would come here again for half price pizza time, but wouldn't order dessert. I'd really give it 3.5 stars.
(4)Thuy N.
Being from Chicago, I like my deep dish pizzas but Eatery A pizza joins my list for top pizzas! Everything from the dough to the ingredients used are fresh. The meats have great flavor and the wait staff are helpful with suggestions for pizza and drink selection. The pizza is very inventive but the ingredients are paired well. This is by-far the best place for happy hour in Des Moines. The pizzas and drinks are 1/2 off during their daily happy hour from 3-6. I always order two pizzas, one for there and one for lunch/dinner the next day!
(5)Thao P.
Tried out this place for DSM Restaurant week because I was gravitated to their menu the most. Being that Alba has great food, I thought this place deserved a shot given the same ownership. The building looks really nice with wonderful outdoor seating. My group and I ordered the Beef Cheeks, Salmon, Gnudi, Corn Bisque, Goddess Salad, Bread pudding, and Salted Caramel Bandino. Very impressed with the high quality of the food. Plating is absolutely beautiful. My only complaint is that sometimes with higher-end dining, food portions aren't filling enough. The salmon and Gnudi portions were a little too small for my liking but nevertheless, still great. The standout entrée had to be the salmon! Loved the cook on the salmon and the crispy skin. After eating it, it left me craving for more! I never had the gnudi before but would recommend it! It's like gnocchi but with ricotta inside. The beef cheeks are served on a yummy crispy polenta and was a tiny dry for my taste. I kept desiring the tenderness of pot roast meat. The other standouts were the corn bisque and the bread pudding. Alcoholic beverage menu here is also impressive. So delicious! Overall, I would recommend this place. Great food, environment, and service!
(4)Taypee K.
I had the pineapple pizza and my bf had the merguez. Both of them were swimming in oil and way too sweet. The pineapple was canned and packed in sugar syrup--I could tell when I tasted it by itself. And get this--I had to salt my pizza. We also had the kale salad (fine), chicken croquettes (slimy, too much cheese), baba (not enough bread, too much oil in it) and the pork empanadas (boring). DM restaurants: what ever would you do without sugar and cheap cheese? Great setting though!
(2)Marina V.
Best patio & happy hour in town! Pizza toppings are constantly changing and all are great.
(5)Noaa B.
What an awesome place. Got say really quickly. They had half off pizza, wine and beer. We got the vegetables, sumac and tahini pizza which was fantastic. Wine was good. They let me taste the wines before i ordered. Service was great. Atmosphere was great add well. Bathrooms were clean and everyone was really nice. Would highly recommend this place especially during happy hour.
(5)Mark G.
So a little bit of everything Mediterranean here, we started off with the stuffed dates and meatballs which were both homeruns, wish they gave a little more on each for the price but that aside they were delicious For my entrée I got the chicken breast, which I would consider more of a Moroccan dish does come cut up with bone in, this dish was full of awesome flavors and very juicy. They did a great job on not serving the chicken too dry, but to its full potential. The mujadara rice, golden raisins, caramelized shallots were the sides that came with it and were a very good pairing. I love Moroccan food and it is very hard to find. Can't forget the yogurt style sauce that came on the side, not a lot but enough to enhance your food. Yes we had desert, who wouldn't Had the bread pudding on special that came with chocolate gelato and an orange type of sauce after a few bites you could tell how rich, thick, and great this fine constructed baked desert was. Please share this one if its available there is plenty to go around. Everyone had pizza around us, didn't try it but it looked good and that's what kept coming out of the kitchen. Plenty to try here and can't wait to go back.

This place surprised me with good food and a good atmosphere. Atmosphere-The décor is different and stylish. When we first walked in I thought it would be loud but I was easily able to carry on conversation with everyone at a table of 8. There was a nice crowd of all ages and dress. You would be comfortable dressed up a little or in jeans and a t-shirt. Service-We had a reservation and we were promptly seated. Our waitress gave us the right level of service, keeping the water glasses full but not intruding on our evening. She seemed to know the menu and was not afraid to offer an opinion. Her suggestions were right on point. The timing of the food was good. Not so fast that I felt like I was being shuffled out the door and not so long that I had to eat my napkin. Food-I had the Lamb Sliders and they were excellent. An interesting mix of flavors and the portion size was perfect. My wife had the Ricotta Cavatelli and she loved it and from the few bites I stole it was spicy, filling, and very good. Our table had a couple of pizza's, shrimp and scallops. Everyone seemed to enjoy their selection and the only complaints were portion size. To be honest the portion sizes are small compared to Pizza Ranch or Cheese Cake Factory, but probably more in line with what they should be. I definitely didn't leave hungry. I didn't have dessert, but those who did really enjoyed it. The beer and wine selection weren't outstanding, but there was a good selection that paired well with the menu. Price-I thought for the quality and atmosphere the prices were very reasonable. My wife and I got out of there for under $100 including drinks and tip. Overall-You should give it a try. I had never heard of the place before, but it reminded me to venture outside West Des Moines or the heart of Downtown to find some great places to eat.

Excellent. 45 minute wait, but first-come on the patio... Waited 2 minutes. Jay was our waiter, and was amazing. His timing and presence was perfect, he was honest in his menu opinions, and did an overall great job. The food.... Several wood-fired pizzas on menu, chose one with mozz, tomato, basil, and balsamic, it was absolutely perfectly done. Added a couple pulled pork, empanada-type appetizers called Sambusak, and finished with the salted caramel budino for dessert. Everything was amazing, and the price was perfect. We sat a few minutes before happy hour ended, which meant half-price pizzas and wine... I would rarely ever spend &50 on a bottle of wine at a restaurant, but for half-off, it's equal to retail, so why not?!?

THANK YOU for bringing Eatery A to Ingersoll !! This has been the best meal I have had since my move from Chicago. Not only was the food great, but the ambience was wonderful. I started with a glass of wine as we pondered the menu. For pizza, we selected the #5 (Lamb gyro, feta, pickled onion, raita) & #12 (mushroom, ricotta, soft egg, truffle oil). The pizzas both had chewy, soft, luscious crust. The lamb gyro pizza was my favorite as it was thoughtfully garnished with fresh cilantro after it came out of the oven, which brought the pizza to a whole new level. Next up was the octopus with beet salsa & fennel puree. You better believe I was hesitant to order octopus at a restaurant in Iowa! Rest assured, it was phenomenal. It was not at all tough with an ever-so-lightly crisp exterior. The beet & fennel were a knockout pairing! And finally we shared the grilled eggplant with yogurt, cous cous & olives. While eggplant is often easy to mess up, Eatery A executed it perfectly. Definitely make reservations. With the pending warmer weather, their small outdoor seating area will surely fill up fast.

As a DSM transplant, maybe I'm a bit more harsh than a typical local. The positives: great looking restaurant. I adore the pulley style lights and the wood makes it feel warm and cozy. This place has one of the best happy hours ever in the history of the world. My husband and I go at least once a month, because you just can't beat a fancy $7 pizza and $23 bottle of really decent Italian wine (and props to Eatery A for not charging a cork fee to take it home with you). Their patio, despite being right on Ingersoll, is pretty great. But, my love of the restaurant ends there. First of all - hospitality. Hosts are friendly enough, most bartenders nice, and my servers have all been ok. However, on a recent visit, my in-laws were harassed, for lack of a better word, by the manager and a bartender. They assumed the booths in the bar area were also self serve (because why are those 5 booths not when everything around it is? Makes no sense). Upon sitting, they were told they needed to leave the booth and go put their name in with the hostess. My in-laws obliged and two minutes later the hostess seated them in a booth. The same bartender came over and very rudely repeated his previous request... And then kept questioning them because he didn't believe that they had been seated by the hostess. Just a tip, guys - that doesn't make guests feel welcome in your establishment. Another downer - the drinks. Red wine is room temp (bleh) but I've come to expect that in DSM. Their cocktails seem 'crafty' on the menu, but I haven't had anything I like. Everything is kind of 'meh'. My drink of choice is champagne, but they have nothing to offer by the glass. Again, drinks = downer. Oh, and if you go for brunch, do not order coffee or espresso. Unless you like bad coffee. That brings me to my biggest disappointment - brunch. I won't be back for it. Ever. It's pretty expensive for the portion size, and nothing my table ordered was really enjoyed. I ordered the bread pudding - I go for sweet brunch over savory. But this was like dessert! I've had some really amazing bread puddings for breakfast, and this didn't measure up. Everyone else at my table ordered dishes that had poached eggs, and every one of them had overcooked yolk and undercooked white - how can you even do that? Needless to say, runny egg whites are not ok. You'll only see me here during happy hour, unfortunately. They're off to a good start, but there is lots of room for improvement.

I was so excited when this place opened up last year. A true gem along Ingersoll Ave. I love that this area is getting a new vibe and this restaurant is definitely helping to create that. The renovated building is beautiful! A wide variety on the menu should appeal to most peoples taste. I love trying new and different things and my husband is more traditional and sticks with what he knows he likes. This place is a favorite for us both! I highly recommend a trip downtown to check this out!
(5)Jewel P.
I was really excited to go here after reading the reviews and studying the menu but if you are going I would recommend only ordering pizza and nothing else. I ordered the small plate chorizo stuffed dates and my husband commented the price and the amount you received just don't add up. ( you get 3) also I ordered the chicken for my entree and it was okay. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't amazing. This place is super popular so be aware of long wait times, we tried placing a reservation online and it's not working.

If management reads reviews/suggestions and acts upon them, I think this could be an amazing spot. The place is beautiful, no doubt. It was a bit loud, loud to the point that we couldn't hear our server and vice versa, -we stopped in after 10pm on a weekend so that may have been part of it. ***They need lights above the booths. I couldn't see what I was eating, and thats part of the experience.*** I had a beet salad. The waitress happily allowed me to sub chèvre for blue cheese. Salad came just as I had ordered it and was amazing! I was pleasantly surprised. Friends ordered a half order of cavatelli (which was a nice option) and a pizza. The food came out quickly and was very good all around. Dessert was disappointing. Not sure what all the fuss over the salted caramel budino is. It did NOT live up to its reputation. Honestly, it didn't even look appetizing. ...but it was dark. From our initial experience, I'm looking forward to a future visit and an opportunity to taste more of the menu. With a little fine-tuning Eatery A could be a success. Go Ingersoll! UPDATE: actually demoted the restaurant to three stars after my second visit. The same friend ordered the same cavatelli on our second visit, was different than the first time she had it. When we mentioned it to the waiter instead of trying to figure out what had changed, he argued with her. I tasted her dish and realize the first time she had it there was no meat in it! When all was said and done there was no apology no I'll mention of the kitchen, nothing. The food is overpriced, and you don't get enough of it. Don't waste your time.
(3)Maria J.
Excellent food. Casual modern ambiance. Service was amazing. Three words: apple stuffed beignets.
(5)Cindy A.
My husband and I have been here three times and all times were during their brunch hours. As far as food goes, this place is great. Don't come here hungry for a Texas size steak, but come for a delicious gourmet meal. The most filling thing on the menu (that I have had) is their pizza, which are also gourmet. The crust is lovely. The drinks are also fun. The service has been consistently friendly.

My mom (Christine T., review below) brought me here last week, I think as a way to try and get me to move back to Des Moines after 15 years in Chicago. And there's no f-ing way THAT'S going to happen while I'm still single, but dinner at Eatery A was a nice sales pitch. Olive Tapanades? Yes, please. A wonderful, flavorful, atypical selection of woodfired pizzas? Oui. Wine, beer, a gorgeous modern interior and perfect little outside patio? Yes yes and yes. Add to that prices which are obv much cheaper than my Chicago hood, and you *almost* have me convinced, mom. It's good to know that the culinary scene in DM is thriving and evolving. I remember when this location was a Blockbuster. :)
(5)Catherine S.
A go-to date night and work outings. I love it, great cocktails, great wine, great service every time. I love the pizzas. Their happy hour is so inexpensive, but it can get crowded when the weather is nice and people are on the patio so I usually avoid it and go at regular dinner time since the prices are still reasonable for the quality of the food. Prepare to park on a side street or Ingersoll if you go during peak hours or happy hour, the lot fills up fast.
(5)Christine T.
Went tonight with my husband. We started with drinks that qualified for happy hour status. Wine and beer were tasty. We had a great starter, olive tampenade, olive sampler and bread. I especially like the lighter of the two tampenades that tasted bright with what I think was preserved lemon. The spin of the restaurant is North African cuisine and the selection of sides, small plates and entrees was delicious and novel. My husband's lamb chop was cooked perfectly and he loved the farrotto (exotic grain) as well as the cooling raita. I enjoyed my stuffed calamari (with chorizo) but hubby's lamb chops won! We will be back. Service was great and the place seemed to be running smoothly despite the fact that it has been open only a week or two.
(4)Bryan K.
Even though this place has only been open for a couple weeks, you wouldn't know it from how the place is ran. We sat at the bar on a Sunday and enjoyed a couple different pizzas (delicious) and tried some different local micro-brews. Our bartender was awesome--she was very professional and fun but even more importantly, extremely knowledgeable. I will definitely be back and look forward to enjoying the patio this summer. It basically goes without saying that this establishment will be a very successful and welcoming addition to the Ingersoll area.
(5)Erin R.
Having just moved to DM from Chicago I was delighted to find this place in my neighborhood! The quality of food, ambiance and prices are fantastic. Made it in time for their happy hour so you can't beat a $3 glass of Sauvignon Blanc and half price pizzas. We tried their chorizo stuffed dates and chorizo stuffed calamari. The dates seemed light on the chorizo but the sauce served with them was delicious. The calamari was good. But their pizza...that is where it's at. Very interesting flavor combos. We went with the lamb gyro pizza. It was fantastic. I'll be back often! The only downfall is there isn't enough parking for how busy they are!
(5)Liz C.
The pineapple pizza is amazing. That's all I've ordered there and will continue to order that there. Service wise... That's a different story. The hostess will sometimes put you at a table with no waiter, so in the end... You might have to find your own table.
(4)Mary G.
I agree with a previous reviewer. Do one thing, pizza, and do it well. However, allow us to choose our own ingredients so we can pick and choose. Mainly you can take away but not combine. Love the one with fig! But the rest of the menu just didn't appeal which is why I went to four stars. It's a sign when three employees we asked said to go for the pizza. Good wine list and dessert choices. Main reason for the three stars is for parking. What a disaster. It would help to have signs, employee - somehow directing folks the lot is full and suggest where they could park. Only we Ingersoll junkies can figure the parking out.
(3)Ann P.
Very average. Pizza was okay. The service was slow. Appetizers were brought after our meals.
(3)Hawk O.
Hmm, hope you don't want a burger! If not wonderful menu!Great atmosphere! Home run! Great location.Interesting mix of people. All good!

Eatery A is a great addition to the Ingersoll area. It's hard to believe the building used to house a Blockbuster Video. The inside has beautiful wood beams with comfortable seating and a bar that makes a great focal point in the center of the restaurant. The olive appetizer, with two tapandades, is a great way to start a meal and shares well. The pizzas are wonderful. For me, this is exactly the right thickness of crust. A little crispy here, a little chewy there, and puffy around the edge. You need that edge to support your slices against the weight of the delicious toppings. There are so many choices. My favorite has an assortment of veggies (even unexpected little bits like green beans and butternut squash) over a white sauce, and then drizzled with a tahini sauce over the cheese. The pizza with fig, prosciutto and balsamic is a close second. The salted caramel budino is creamy and rich, one of the best desserts I've had in awhile. The happy hour special is a great deal: half-price pizzas, beer and wine. It makes it easier to try a few kinds of pizza if you're having trouble deciding and have company to help you devour it. If you're there when it's busier (and it often is), the noise level in some parts of the restaurant can make it a little difficult to carry on a conversation.
(4)Tammy D.
What an awesome place! Great service, amazing wines, and delicious food. I had the eggplant and it tasted like Springtime. Definitely going back.
(4)Martin B.
Service is among the best Des Moines has to offer. Highly recommend the Fig & Prosciutto Pizza. Yeah, Yeah it sounds like something you wouldn't try but, you should! Went last Friday afternoon. Half price drinks and pizza. Great deal AND great food!
(4)Maria M.
a month ago eatery A would have rec'd 4 stars from me but the last few times we've dined here have been disappointing. we go for happy hour and always for pizza. The Date/ Blue cheese pizza is my favorite but I have to ask for extra dates because they cut back on dates after customers complained it was too sweet. There is an extra charge for more dates. The crust is also taking over a good 1/3rd of the pizza. The crust is good but even out the pizza field guys. don't glob all the flavor in a 2-inch diameter and leave plain, sometimes charred crust remaining.
(3)Corey S.
Eatery A is one of those hidden gems that you discover either by word of mouth of sophisticated foodies or pure dumb luck. My girlfriend and I came here for her birthday on the aforementioned foodie recommendation and we were not disappointed. The Moroccan carrots were amazing, with just the right amount of tenderness. She ordered the lamb sliders and the flavor level was through the roof. I, being overwhelmed at the menu options, ordered the ricotta cavatelli and it was EPIC. The fennel sausage was bold and presented well. The pesto sauce held its own and married perfectly with the mushrooms and pasta. Eatery A was a clear line in the sand between going out to eat because you don't feel like cooking vs. going out to eat somewhere special. I recommend making reservations and getting some tonight.

The atmosphere and prices are great, but the execution of the dining experience was amateurish throughout. - No one came to our table to greet us after we were seated for about 10 minutes. When he did come he just said he'd be back. - Had to ask for silverware for the entire party - Had to ask for soup spoons for soup - One soup was missing the bread crumbs - Only one soup came out so we all waited to eat our soups and salads until the final soup arrived. Right when we started to eat our entrees came out, so not only was the original soup cold, but the rest of the meal was too. And who wants to be surrounded by plates when the courses should be timed correctly?? - When we ordered a second round of drinks it never came so we had to ask again - The food was just ok, the drinks were pretty good. - My dish had olive slices (no pits) yet somehow there was giant olive pit in it that I bit down on as the last bite of the meal - ouch! I would say this place has a long way to go...
(2)Lindsay E.
Excellent. Very neat atmosphere. Love it all. I could move in. We got the mixto meat and cheese tray and crab stuffed peppers. All excellent. Service was quick and nice. The food was all fresh. I loved the truffled honey and manchego part of the mixto tray. We went at 2pm on a Saturday and they had a brunch style menu. The crab stuffed peppers came with one side and we chose the poached eggs. Perfecto. Definitely go here if you are in the area! I can't wait to go back for dinner sometime.

I think most of the reviews need to tap the brakes a bit... this place is fine, in my opinion. If you want to do a patio drinks session and share a pizza, then I'd consider it worthy of more stars, as the patio area looks awesome. Regardless, I'd recommend going during happy hour (until 6:00 PM) as the draw beers are half price, which is actually translated as "fair price" in my opinion -- who pays $8 in Des Moines for a beer from Confluence Brewery, which is the regular menu price??? The half-price pizzas during happy hour are nice too. However, most of the pizzas sound totally disgusting. I'm fairly adventurous and I don't mind lots of different toppings, but I only found a couple of pizzas that sounded remotely worth trying. Oddly, the four cheese was the best one I had and our table had four different choices (one of which came back a liquid mess, but they did re-do it and wiped it from the bill). One other thing - they take reservations, but we had to call them back to confirm it, and they claimed to have no idea who we were... so basically, we had to ask twice. That's risky if you're showing up during a popular time and they didn't have you down. I'd go again, but this isn't some 5-star establishment like many here seem to think.
(3)Rita M.
I really enjoyed our meal here. good selection of appetizers, wood fired pizzas and other crusty things, nice dessert. Nice wine list, great atmosphere and prices are good for an upscale pizza/pasta restaurant.
(5)Alice Y.
Awesome food, awesome atmosphere, great price for what you get! I've been here a few times now since it opened and have had no complaints yet. Their pizzas and a lot of their other food is cooked in the wood-fired oven. Lots of interesting pizza choices including gyro pizza, olive/caper/lemon, lots of things with weird italian meats that I had to keep looking up on Wikipedia. You'd think a place like this would be more expensive, but it was VERY reasonable. AND, if you go between 3-6pm during the week it's happy hour which means 1/2 off pizzas and half off draft beers and wine. I went with a gorup of friends and we got 5 pizzas, and drinks and I think my bill ended up being like $7 total. It's new so it can be very busy in the evening, especially if you want to sit on the patio. But I'd definitely reccomend this place. It's definitely a step up from the Blockbuster that used to be in the lot ;). 5/5 yelpz.
(5)Erin M.
Drove by and noticed this new place with my husband the other day and decided to stop in. We arrived at opening (3pm) first ones in but it quickly filed up. Inside is very nice. We sat on the patio (really nice). Happy Hour meant half priced pizza and drinks for us. We got the #2 & 5. Delicious. Filed us both up with leftovers. Also had a wine and beer. All for just over $20. Happy Hour on a Saturday. That is pretty awesome. Service also great. If the food and service is the same on our next visit I would not hesitate to move this up to 5 stars.
(4)Antonio V.
This place is Awesome! Great atmosphere and friendly wait staff. Had the pork cheek with polenta which was really good. Portion sizes are good will leave full. Only complaints are that its a little on the dark side for dinner. Felt like I needed a flashlight to read the menu. The music was a little on the loud side.
(5)Erienne M.
Pizzas are amazing! This is the type of place where they take a lot of pride in the ingredients they are using. I've been there twice now and I have tried several things on the menu...you can taste the quality in every bite!
(5)Angela M.
I loved the food. Service was outstanding! Bwst ive had in Des moines. I am a vegan and my husband is a carnivore, and we both had great selections. He loved the pappardelle and my favorite was the hummus. That said, I'm not sure I will return because I couldn't hear anything. Maybe I'm getting old but it was too loud in there to even carry on a conversation.
(4)Kris D.
We had a great experience last night at Eatery A. I'll go ahead and get the two complaints out of the way: 1) Oy, the parking! This place is the "it" restaurant right now, and finding a spot in the packed lot is a nightmare; 2) we had reservations, and patiently waited for our turn. The first time the hostess called us to be seated, she changed her mind halfway through taking us to a table and told us nothing was available yet. The second time we were called by the hostess, and asked if we preferred a booth at the bar or a table in the dining room. When chose the dining room, she told us nothing was available and we'd have to wait. Why give us a choice that isn't available??? With those minor issues out of the way, I have to say, I thought this was a great restaurant. Our server was friendly, prompt, attentive and very professional. We ordered the fig and prosciutto pizza at our server's recommendation, and it did not disappoint! Will definitely go here again.
(4)Jessa M.
So if you're hungry and want something besides pizza, this is not your restaurant. The tapas style plates are very small, with a very high price. We ordered a calamari plate to go along with our pizza and were very shocked. We understood that the plates were tapas style, but were not aware exactly how small they would be. There were 3 squid hoods and 2 tentacles, all very very small. The pizza was good, no complaints. I just left feeling very ripped off for the amount of food we received vs the price we paid. Service was good
(3)K P.
The interior is cool esp the heating and cooling design. Service was great and so was the pizza most notably the crust. The pizza gets five stars. The fountain iced tea gets 0. Excellent happy hour deals. 6.50 for the best pizza in the area is hard to beat
(4)Bob R.
Took some friends there for their anniversary, thought we would try something new. I must say it was a real disappointment and we wound up going to another restaurant after our meal at Eatery A.
(1)Tad D.
Beautiful restaurant, amazing food, friendly engaging staff -- great outdoor quiet setting or cozy indoor booths. It's really the entire package! Can't wait to go again!
(5)Jose E.
I've even there three times and enjoyed each one of them. The pizza with fig is really good. I've had the lamb slides and the mussels and both were pretty tasty. The used to have a date cake that was amazing but it's gone, the caramel salted budino not so much. I had a taste of the new date pudin, it's even better!
(4)Zaneeta M.
We just tried the new brunch at Eatery A and it was delicious! My husband had the shrimp and grits with homemade English muffins and I had the hangar hash with a side of fresh fruit. The portions were huge so we took the extras to our friends and they got to enjoy it as much as we did. Also, try the bloody mary - it is my new favorite drink. I am excited to try other items on the menu. Lemon ricotta pancakes, the omelet with avocado, crab stuffed piquillo peppers and smoked salmon. Everything sounded so good, it was hard to decide, so I will be going back to try something new.
(5)Nicole M.
I've been to Eatery A several times for the happy hour special: half priced drinks and pizza from 4-6pm. Up until this last time, the service was decent (had an incidence of a really timid/awkward waitress - but the rest of the times were fine). This last time was particularly bad, and makes me hesitant to want to go again. We arrived with a group of 5 of us, had a bit of a wait so we ordered drinks at the bar: 1.) We were seated in a slightly more private area, which was great, except they forgot about us for about 15 minutes. A waiter finally came by and asked us if we had been helped, he was pretty awkward about it 2.) We ordered an appetizer, but did not receive silverware (similar to another reviewer), or plates. I finally went and found a hostess and asked her if she could please bring us silverware as our food was getting cold. Still no plates, but at that point we just dug in. The brussels were delicious. 3.) We all ordered pizza and a few more drinks. The pizzas were delicious as always. Our waiter never really came by our table again, and no one refilled our waters the entire time. All in all, the food is great, but the service is hit or miss and could definitely be improved on. Beware: the appetizers are pretty tiny. Olive tamponade was tasty but not really satisfying as an appetizer to share, for the price.

It is nice to see the Ingersoll scene coming alive again. Eatery A is a nice addition to Ingersoll, but there are some things it could improve. The interior is beautiful and there is plenty of seating. There is a large wooden wrap-around bar for drinks and those on-the-run. The menu is highlighted by their pizza with a wood burning oven. Besides the beautiful interior, there really isn't all that much unique about Eatery A. Wood burning ovens, while appreciated, seem to be all over Des Moines (Centro, Red Rossa, etc). The biggest let down was directly across from the beautiful wooden bar: a practically empty stock of liquor. Sure, they have the basics to make the standard red bull vodka or whatever, but with such a prominent bar area it would be nice to have some selection and perhaps some artisan cocktails. If you appreciate a well-made pizza or want to sit outside on Ingersoll, I'd head to Eatery A. If you are looking for a well-stocked bar or a unique menu, head elsewhere.
(2)Janet H.
Started off with a cocktail...Moinesjito, which was well blended, love minty refreshing drinks. Had a very tasty almond soup. Ordered the scallops with cous cous and olives and it was delicious although small portion. My son had a pizza, with egg and that was also very good. The half price drinks and pizza during happy hour is a great deal. The menu was unique with lots of tempting choices so I will just have to go back!
(4)Miki B.
Good pizza. ..the rest of the menu is pretty average. Many dishes sound good as described in the menu but are poorly executed. Good outside seating area.
(2)Jennette M.
We waited only a short time for our reservation on a Saturday night. The server was very patient with a group of women who needed him to come back at least 3 times! On the server's recommendation, went with an excellent Bourbon & Fig cocktail. I had a couple small plates for my meal. The butternut squash gnocchi had excellent flavor and balance despite not being served with oyster mushrooms as advertised on the menu - I am not sure if they were out and substituted? I was surprised at how delicious the bay scallops were. The celery & apple slaw and lentil vinaigrette they were served with gave a nice crunchy balance to the buttery scallops. My friend got the crab stuffed peppers, which she reported as excellent, but the serving could have been a bit bigger, even for a small plate. The server did a great job at alerting her to get a side (Brussels sprouts, also very good). Dessert consisted of Apple Beingnets, which were nothing short of stellar.
(4)Julie W.
just ate here for the first time Friday night with 4 friends. the food is stellar and worthy of 5 stars. wood fire pizza is out of this world with some creative topping combinations. the interior is also sleek and creative...hard to believe it was a blockbuster store at one time. BUT....only 2 stars because our server was a complete jack-wagon :( the group I went with is pretty laid back, Brad, from the get go was rude and disengaged. told us the special pizza was terrible (which we tried anyway and was delicious!). when I asked if they had moscoto wine he said no and offered no alternatives. I've waited tables before and get what it is like to have a bad day. but it felt like this waiter was trying to ruin our experience: ( luckily a friend in the group who has been here at least 8 times assured us the wait staff is not all like this.
(2)Jennifer P.
Great mix of a bar atmosphere and restaurant. Will be back.
(4)Jessica C.
Great restaurant with creative and fresh food. We tried a few of the veggie appetizers (carrots and brussels sprouts) and a cheese plate to start and all three were delicious. Creative taste additions to both the carrots and brussels sprouts that I enjoyed. For dinner I had the mushroom, soft egg, truffle oil pizza which was delicious. Most of the pizzas I saw looked amazingly delicious. Wine was good and reasonably priced. Overall, good atmosphere and great food.
(5)Adele Z.
Love the atmosphere and outdoor patio. Pizza is very good; the rest of the menu items ok
(3)Scott M.
I visited Eatery A for the first time last Friday. It was very busy, so we had a decent wait, but it was well worth it. My friend goes there often and I was excited to try it. The pizza menu was very creative. I ordered the 4 and she ordered the 13. They had just revised the menu that week so your selections may vary. Both were excellent. The service was very attentive, even though the place was packed most of the time. The wine list was wonderful and varied. I plan to return often.
(5)Mike c.
Last time we went, service was non-existent and the pizzas were burnt on the bottom, not done on top.
(2)Andy H.
Fantastic! The drinks (Pompeii Rising) were excellent. Our dinners were delicious. And dessert (salted caramel budino) was to die for. Loved the patio seating right on Ingersoll. We will be back!
(5)Sam S.
Great vibe, great staff and even better pizza! 1/2 price pizza, beer and wine 3-6 everyday. Can't beat that.
(5)Rakesh R.
Not sure as to why this place has such a high rating. Veggies on the pizza were undercooked, portions were too small and the eggplant dish had no flavour. Pretty noisy place with cramped seating. Even the beer was not chilled. We were a group of 6 and none of us liked it.
(1)Katie B.
So... I would tell the average diner "go and have pizza and get your money's worth". My dining companion was wondering weather or not to order a full or half of pasta. As it turned out, the full order of cavatelli was, well, very small. She estimated to have gotten perhaps an ounce of fennel sausage, while very good but maybe two mushrooms, and ricotta that seemed to have disappeared. Stated "if I had gotten that for $7 (the price for a half) I'd been very happy." I ordered the Hangar. "Medium rare ok?" was asked by the server which to me implies that perhaps the steak is pre-seared and heated to order. At $15 (the most expensive item) the portion was small (in retrospect, I may be being too harsh in my review, but wait...) During and after my meal, all I could taste was paprika. The "potatoes bravas" were so heavily seasoned, the romesco and meat were completely lost. After reading the menu further, I realized that all non-pasta entrees include a featured protein (save the "LAND" category) and a starch. It's up to you to order your veggie side a la carte. If our server had advised this to us, I would have ordered something from the "OVEN SIDES" category. Anyway, after three glasses of wine, tax and tip, we spent $80 on a whole lot of hype. BUT! But but but. I've had the pizza. GO and eat the pizza. #1, #7, and #11 are great.

Great food and atmosphere. It was very busy but our server made accommodations for us on the patio. Our server was fun which help contribute to our enjoyment. Definitely a place to check out.

My son has been in Des Moines for two years at college. We live in Chicago, and have had some nice meals during our visits here. Then, Eatery A comes along. No need to try any other restaurants, we will go here every time! This was an amazing meal! First, we had the date appetizer...not really a date fan. Fantastic! I'll order them again for sure. Pizza #2, tomato, mozzarella, basil balsamic reduction. The flavor was perfect and I have NEVER had a crust like this. Perfect crunch on the outside, soft on the inside, beet salad, totally yummy. Then, perfectly cooked hanger steak, who knows what was done to the potatoes, best carrots ever, and I don't want to forget the squash. At this point, we could have left, Tummy's full, totally content, no need for more, but, the budino spoke to us, and it was so worth it! And if that wasn't enough, the zeppole, Italian donuts with lemon curd, Oh my! The donuts were so light you almost couldn't feel them, add a little of the lemon, heaven! Wonderful meal, pleasant atmosphere. I can't say enough, you must go!
